Hooton – Evaluation of Cement Admixture Interactions
R D Hooton
University of Toronto, Canada
ASTM subcommittee C09.48 was formed to develop test methods and practices which could be used to predict performance of complex cement-SCM-chemical admixture systems prior to help avoid placing problems in concrete or for forensic analysis of problems. Both isothermal and semi-adiabatic calorimetry practices have been developed and work is under way on methods to determine loss of workability, false set, or premature stiffening. A method is also under development for determining AEA dose requirements for a stable air void system using a modified foam index test. These methods will be reviewed and related experimental data presented.
